Learn more about who John is and his vision for leadership:

John is the son of Dutch immigrants, and a lifetime resident of Kings County.

He attended elementary and secondary school in Canning, NS. John went on to graduate with honours from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and won an All-Canadian basketball award for his play on the court.

John completed a science degree in plant protection from the University of Guelph, before launching a successful career in farming and agri-business.

He purchased his parents’ farm in 1987, which he diversified and grew to a level that allowed him to create the successful company Farmer John’s Herbs.

Public service has always been important to John, and his volunteer efforts in the community reflect this. He co-founded the Annapolis Valley chapter of 100 Men Who Give a Damn, served as moderator for the New Minas Baptist Church, and coached junior sports. These are just a few of the ways John has invested his time in serving the local community.

His wife Heather is a successful businesswoman in her own right, having opened and run several businesses in the province.

Heather and John have three sons, two of whom recently purchased the family farm, keeping it in the hands of the Lohr family for a third generation.
